Visual and Performing Arts

The visual and performing arts program at Corinth offers students a wide variety of opportunities to develop their unique talents, learn about artistic expression and participate in high-quality musical and theatre productions.

High School Art

In Art I, students discuss the elements and principles of design, study an artist who effectively demonstrates the element or principle, and create a project that also demonstrates that element or principle. Projects include Matisse-inspired paper cutouts, two-point perspective houses, and paper mosaics.

AICE Art, a studio class, and Art II focus on a wide variety of two-dimensional skills and media.

Ceramics students focus on the process of creating clay sculptures and vessels from the wedging process to glazing and firing. Students complete projects demonstrating their skills including pinch and slab pots and throwing on a wheel. Projects include bowls, salt and pepper shakers, and personal ceramic totem poles.

Corinth art students consistently win state and national awards for their work in competitions such as Northeast Mississippi Community College's High School Art Competition and the National Bird Dog Foundation's Art Competition.

Theatre

The theatre program at Corinth High School provides students with a chance to showcase their talents in multiple ways. With a play in the fall and a musical in the spring, students are inclined to grow on AND off stage year round!

Theatre is a fantastic way for students to meet new friends and find comfort in being in front of the public--something they will definitely need to prepare for in college or future life endeavors! In addition, students will learn first hand how to put on a production and why responsibility is key in a show being successful.

Not a fan of being in the spotlight? There are plenty of opportunities for backstage work such as set building, lighting, sound, or costume design! ALL high school grades are welcome (and encouraged)  to come audition and be a part of our theatre family. No experience necessary!

High School Band

The Corinth Warrior Band is open to students in grades 9-12. Eighth graders are invited to participate in the front ensemble. All brass, woodwind and percussion instruments are included. In addition to a class during the school day, the band has afterschool rehearsals. Students participate in both the marching and concert bands.

Band students learn proficiency on woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Additionally, they learn all major scales through exercises, etudes, and concert literature and also develop sight-reading skills.

The Warrior Band performs at all football games, competitions, parades, a winter and spring concert, and state concert evaluation. They participate in our own Crossroads Classic, The Northeast Mississippi Band Championships in Booneville, and State Marching Evaluation in Tupelo. Last year, they earned superiors in marching, concert, and sight-reading.

Chorus

The Corinth Chorus is open to students in grades 7-12. Students learn all styles of music: classical, Broadway, current popular, older styles and spirituals. They develop musicianship by improving singing techniques, dynamic enunciation, reading music and sight-singing.

The chorus performs fall and spring concerts, a community Christmas concert at the Coliseum and at graduation. They also attend mass choir events, honor choir opportunities and adjudication events.
