Last year, the Lady Warriors finished the season with a 17-8-1 record. They captured the Division 1-4A Championship before falling in the playoffs to the Lady Knights of West Lauderdale.
The Lady Warriors had strong performances on the mound throughout the season from Carys Goodwin and Kinley Pittman. Corinth was able to rack up in division awards with Goodwin honored as Division 1-4A Pitcher of the Year, Pittman honored as Division 1-4A MVP, and Crista Wilson honored as Co-Defensive Player of the Year. After a heartbreaking ending to the season, the Lady Warriors are looking to bounce back even stronger this season.
Anna Hudson is the only senior on this year’s team. The rest of the team is comprised of juniors, sophomores, freshman and a few 8th graders.
“After last season’s success, I have high expectations for this year’s group,” said Head Coach Maggi Vondenstein. “These student-athletes are working extremely hard preparing for the season and have set some big goals. I expect some of our younger athletes to really step up and fill the shoes of our seniors from last year. This group has a lot of talent and depth and I’m excited to see where this year takes them.”
Also, this year for the first time, the school district has a middle school softball team. In previous years, the middle school students have played on the high school team. This new team is comprised of ten 7th and 8th graders.
